Everyone here is so kind and gentle. I had not been to a dentist in an embarrassingly long time and my mouth is a mess. There has been no judgment or shaming about my lack of dental care or the sad state of my mouth. I have so far had 2 deep cleanings and a tooth pulled and it has all gone well. They have give me accurate explanations about the cost of work to be done and what my copay will be. And they are understanding about the my need to stretch out the schedule based on cost. The outside of the building is a little worn-looking and does not reflect how nice it is inside. Inside is recently redone and very serene and clean.

The Root Canal Treatment Plan

Root canal therapy usually requires one or two office visits and consists of a specific course of action designed to ensure your tooth remains healthy.

Here is what to expect during a root canal treatment:

Diagnosis and Treatment Plan

An x-ray is the first step to diagnosing what could be causing your symptoms. After the x-ray and before your root canal therapy can begin, you may be prescribed antibiotics to help clear away any infection or inflammation.

Prepping the Tooth

Before the root canal procedure can begin, your tooth will have to be numbed. Numbing your tooth is done by applying a local anesthetic to ensure you don’t feel any pain during the root canal treatment. Once your tooth is numb, specialized instruments remove any infected or damaged nerve from inside the tooth.

Sealing the Tooth

Once the damaged nerve, infection, and decay are removed from inside your tooth, the dentist or endodontist will fill the root canal with a special material designed to seal and protect your tooth from further infection.

Is there an alternative treatment to root canals?

Root canals are often seen as a necessary evil. The truth is that getting a root canal on an infected or abscessed tooth isn’t about avoiding discomfort—it’s about preserving your health and well-being. Ignoring these infections may make them life-threatening situations requiring much more invasive treatments than a simple root canal would provide if caught early.

Still apprehensive? We understand. The team at Avenue Dental Clinic will review all available options tailored specifically for you. We will only perform root canal therapy when we believe it is the best course of action and with minimal discomfort. Contact us today, and let’s keep your smile healthy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Cavity-causing decay, physical trauma, or a dead nerve can all lead to severe tooth damage. Loose fillings or crowns and chips and cracks only compound the problem.

Our knowledgeable team utilizes technology and a patient-focused approach to provide root canal therapy with little or no discomfort.

Unfortunately, when patients realize they require a root canal, their tooth, nerve, and pulp have already deteriorated beyond repair. A root canal can be the only way to protect your teeth from permanent decay.

Root canal therapy can be completed in one or two office visits. The amount of time it takes depends on your case’s complexity. Basic treatments typically take 30 – 60 minutes, while more complex cases may require up to 90 minutes of attention from your dental professional.

Root canal procedures are often covered by dental insurance. After we assess your needs, our team will provide you with an estimate to give to your provider.

When undergoing a root canal on back teeth, such as molars and premolars, you will likely need to follow up with a dental crown for proper protection. On the other hand, front teeth like canines or incisors might not require a crown.
